Texas LTC Eligibility Criteria

Must be a legal resident of Texas for six months preceding the date of an application for LTC

Must be at least 21 years old, or eligible under Section 411.172(g), (Military Exception)

Must not have been convicted of a felony

Must not be currently charged with a Class A or Class B misdemeanor or an offense under Section 42.01 of the Texas Penal Code (Disorderly Conduct), or of a felony

Must not, in the past five years preceding the date of application, been convicted of a Class A or Class B misdemeanor or equivalent offense or of any offense under Section 42.01 of the Penal Code (Disorderly Conduct)

Must not be a fugitive from justice for a felony or Class A or B misdemeanor

Must not be chemically dependent

Must be capable of exercising sound judgement regarding the proper use and storage of a handgun

Must not be restricted under a court protective order or subject to a restraining order affecting the spousal relationship, not including a restraining order solely affecting property interests

Must be fully qualified under federal and state laws to purchase a handgun

Must not be finally determined by the attorney general to be delinquent in making child support payments

Must have not been finally determined to be delinquent in the payment of a tax or other money collected by the comptroller, the tax collector of a political subdivision of the state, or any agency or subdivision of the state

Must not have been adjudicated as having engaged in delinquent conduct violating a penal law of the grade of felony

Must not have made any material misrepresentation, or failed to disclose any material fact, in an application or request for application submitted pursuant to 37 TAC Chapter 6 and Chapter 411 of the Texas Government Code.
